Looking For A Fake-Treasure

A pirate is a pirate because he is looking for a treasure. Without treasure, there is no pirate.

What about you?

Are you a pirate?

When you pirate on the internet, are you looking for a treasure?

Or are you just looking for a standard, some quick fix, never thinking about it in terms of treasure at all?

You may ask: “Why does it matter? What difference does it make?”
Let me tell you this, if you do not think in terms of treasure you are making a mistake.

If you don’t think in terms of treasure, you are selling yourself short. You are having too low standards (no pun intended).

What you are most likely doing instead is looking for a fake-treasure. This mistake will cause a lot of problems for you, and most bad consequences will be invisible to you, which make them even more dangerous.

But if you can distinguish a true treasure from a fake treasure, everything will change, and you will never be out of a standard again.

Mistake #2:

Believing There Is No Treasure

Why are pirates so popular?

Why are pirate movies so successful at the box office?

Why is there no lack of digital pirates in modern times?

Is it because they break the law? Because they harm others? Because they are breaking a tabu?

Or is there something else that makes them so popular?

Let me share what I believe. I think that breaking the law, harming others, and doing tabu things are just the shadow sides of what really makes them so attractive. What we really love about pirates is not their dark side, but their light side. Their courage most of all. Their dreams to find a treasure, no matter what. We identify with their determination, their ability to lead, explore and use their trickster energy to get their way. To bluff, fight and strategize courageously.

Those elements are things that most of us have lost entirely. When we pirate, we may still dream of those attractive pirate attributes, but what we really do is to incorporate the shadow sides and nothing more.

Most pirates have lost the skill to dream big (or they have never even started). Most pirates would not even believe that there is something that could be called a treasure. They have given up on their dreams. They falsely believe that a treasure only exists in movies and children’s stories.

A HUGE mistake.

Shall I tell you a secret? There is a treasure… for everyone!

Mistake #3:

Getting Addicted To Piracy

Are you addicted to piracy?

Surely not.

Of course, you are not.

This could never happen to you.

But wait a second. Is this not what EVERY addicted pirate would say?

What about the hording pirates that frantically collect standards they don’t need to impress those who don’t like them? You have probably come across those pirates. They are so afraid that they can never get what they really need, just because they “might need it one day”.

Yet they never do.

But the documents they really need, they can rarely find.

So they collect more and more. They use quantity to compensate for lack of quality and are stuck in an addictive cycle.

If this ever happened to you, STOP right now! This is the sign of a sickness. I know it may be discomforting, and nobody wants to hear it.

But don’t worry. Once you make the decision you can do better. Because there is a much better way.

Mistake #4:

Believing You Can’t Afford To Pay For Standards

Pirates who say this believe that they don’t have enough resources.

But the truth is, they cannot afford not to afford to pay for standards.

Why?

Because if they pirate then hidden cost and hidden risks will set them back. Hidden cost and risk diminish their resources.

But buying does the opposite.

No hidden cost and no hidden risk.

Instead, emotional alignment, security, predictability, reputation… value that pirates can only dream of.

Mistake #5

Suppressing Feelings of Misalignment When Pirating

You may successfully justify pirating to yourself.

But what about your feelings? What about your core values?

You may convince yourself that pirating is OK, but if you suppress the feelings of misalignment with your core values, then your unconsciousness will eventually sabotage your actions.

If you do this long enough, you may end up in an organization with negative culture that accepts small acts of manipulation, betrayal, fraud and deceit as “normal”.

Over time, such an organization will accept large acts of manipulation, betrayal, fraud and deceit as “normal”.

The ultimate end result is always increased inner and outer conflicts.

And sometimes even bancruptcy.

Don’t get started on this path.

Mistake #6

Violating Trust Of Your Clients And Partners

Have you ever noticed why clients never seem to trust pirates?

They may not say so openly, but they will act with resistance.

Why? What’s going on here?

It’s actually very simple…

Clients don’t base their choices of suppliers on how cheap they are.

This does not make them feel confident. Instead, it would make them fear to be abused or harmed by bad quality…

And guess what. That’s probably a correct assessment. Clients are right to avoid pirating suppliers.

I realize that this may not seem fair to you. Maybe for you piracy is not such a big deal… but it is for most clients.

Don’t let yourself be fooled, even if they don’t tell you openly the real reason why they avoid you.

Don’t argue. Just get over it.

Until you accept this fact and begin to do what really attractd clients and causes them to develop deep trust in you, you’ll NEVER have successful relationships with clients that you want.  

Mistake #7

Expecting That Pirates Can Avoid Prison

What’s the worst fear pirates have?

To get caught red handed and go to prison for piracy?

What are the chances?

The likelihood to go to prison for piracy is very low (for most people).

So many decide to pirate anyway.

Maybe you have done the same? I have. But today I regret it. Because…

The idea to avoid prison as pirate is a huge delusion. It is impossible.

Because even if a pirate does not sit behind metal bars, he is most likely imprisoned anyway.

Really, you may ask? How?

Because physical prison is only one of 4 types of prisons!

Just because a pirate evades physical prison does not mean that he can also escape the emotional, mental or spiritual prison.

Almost no pirate can.

Mistake #8

Assuming That Piracy Takes Courage

Many pirates get a kick out of pirating. It’s exciting. It’s thrilling. Doing something illegal can be seductive for certain people.

Some even they feel like being a hero. They frame themselves as being courageous. “Thrill-seeking is a sign of courage”, they think.

Big misconception.

It’s cowardice in disguise.

I know, I know, it’s not what they want to hear…

But taking shortcuts and harming others while hiding their identity is the easy way.

True courage starts with honouring the creators…

Mistake #9

Being Addicted To The Moocher Mindset

Is pirating a symptom of a larger, and more fundamental mindset that manipulates your mind?

Do you believe that you have to extract value in order to survive and flourish? Are you constantly looking for scams and schemes to get ahead of others?

Wake-up call: Not everything is a zero-sum game.

Intangible assets are not limited. Sharing love creates more love. Sharing creativity creates more creativity. Sharing ideas creates more ideas. Creating value creates more value. Those things are not limited. They increase the pie.

People who understand the value mindset NEVER try to moocher off other people or other people’s resources. Because they know that this is a slippery slope.

They stay away from such thinking and they stay away from people who are addicted to the moocher mindset, because they know that it is not working.

Don’t fall for the moocher mindset.

Mistake #10

Not Getting HELP

This is the biggest mistake of all.

This is the mistake that keeps most pirates from EVER having the kind of success that they truly want.

I know, especially men often don’t like to make themselves look weak or helpless. We don’t like to ask for help.
